The EnviroStars Rating System

Businesses certified by EnviroStars are given a two-to-five star rating based on their demonstrated commitment to reducing hazardous waste and preventing pollution. The more proactive a business is in reducing hazardous waste, the higher their star rating.

2 star certified businesses have demonstrated to manage hazardous waste properly, and have set specific goals to reduce hazardous waste over the next year.

3 star certified businesses meet the prior criteria and have involved their employees, as well as actively changed their practices, processes, or products to reduce hazardous waste.

4 star certified businesses meet the prior criteria and have incorporated waste prevention directly into their operations, marketing, management, and accounting systems.

5 star certified businesses meet the prior criteria and have demonstrated to be leaders within their industry or community in reducing and preventing hazardous waste. Businesses with a 5 star rating go well beyond others in their industry in their commitment to be environmentally responsible.
